Taiwan GSM--Prepaid SIMs in Taiwan Get More Difficult to Obtain by SMS[_2_]
I'm in Taipei now, attending a trade show, and I thought I'd stroll down to the local 7-11 or other convenience store (literally every 50 meters or so) and pick up a SIM card as I've done in the past. Apparently the government was concerned that too many criminals were buying prepaid SIM cards...

locking side switches by George[_3_]
I want a phone that I can program so that in my pocket side switches do not operate, often nullifying ring as well as wearing out battery. I hardly use these goddammed pieces of crap, but often when I need them the ringers are off or the battery is shot, and this after I just recharged them. I...

Metal Phone Housings by Jim Higgins
Eventually I may replace my VX8300 via NE2 or eBay but the Verizon phones I see at the Verizon kiosks are plastic and seem tacky. Expensive but tacky. Are there any phones left with metal housings? -- Civis Romanus Sum

Bluetooth Object Transfer OBEX Profiles ??? by Bob La Londe
What the heck is that? I am interested in a phoen that says it has bluetooth handsfree capability, but does not support this. I am looking at using the phone with an Xlink. Xlink basically allows you to use your bluetooth enabled phone over your landline type phones.
