Phone Recommendations by anon_private[_3_]
Hello, I am having trouble with either my either my SIM or phone. If it is the phone, I will need to consider buying a decent one. My current phone is the very dated slide phone, and I want something modern. It must have an on screen keyboard and be unlocked.

Just a comment that root (so far) has been a lot of fun and functionality! by Stijn De Jong[_2_]
After rooting last week to test out Android backup as compared to iOS backup, I have been having a lot of fun adding functionality to Android! In fact, I installed so many root-only apps that I had to create a special folder for them on my one very well organized desktop (which I have...

Verizon (again) offers unlimited data ($80/month for one line) by Stijn De Jong
Verizon last offered unlimited data options to customers in 2012 before killing the plans in favor of tiered data buckets where users share data with other members of their family. Last year the company made its first move back towards unlimited, introducing a "Safety Mode" where customers who...

Need a cellphone booster by [email protected]
I live in a rural area where the reception is poor. I live down in a valley too, which makes it worse. If I walk up the hill, or go on the roof of my house, I can get enough signal to make calls. In the summer, this is not a problem, but in winter I dont feel like walking up the hill and making...

Do tablets have built-in cell phones? by KenK
Oddly, I tried Google for a few minutes and the tablet descriptions I ran across didn't mention a phone. Seems like it wouild be simple to add one and save having to carry both a phone and a tablet. Or maybe they figure a smart phone is already much like a tablet? TIA -- I love a good meal!...

Compare Google Pixel & Pixel XL to the iPhone 7 by specifications only by Algeria Horan
In a recent thread on m.p.m.i, JF Mezei brought up the Google Pixel XL camera comparison to the iPhone camera. I hadn't heard of the Pixel XL before, so I decided to run a quick specification-by-specification comparison of the closest iWhatever to the Google Nexus HTC Pixel XL phone. Here is the...

Do you turn off "location access" in all the apps that don't need it? by Horace Algiers
Do you turn off "location access" in all the apps that don't need it? Why do so very many apps require location access anyway? For example, *why* does ES File Explorer need location access? http://i.cubeupload.com/HH2sfG.png I'm shocked at how many apps "require" location access. For example,...

Do you "Decline" or "Accept" Google regularly checking on your apps? http://i.cubeupload.com/zNtJ10.png Just about monthly, I reset my Android phone to factory defaults, where I re-install my apps from auto-archived APKs without creating a Google Play account. The first app installed from an APK...

Which of the 3 "Google & location" services do you allow on your Android device? by Horace Algier
Upon factory reset, three questions are invariably asked of Android owners: http://i.cubeupload.com/Yqiw0A.png The best short summary of the questions I can come up with is: 1. Let all apps contact Google to figure out where you are 2. Let Google apps know where you are. 3. Send Google all your...

Are others on T-Mobile in the USA getting their data constantly updated, for free? by Horace Algier
Are others on T-Mobile in the USA getting their data limits constantly updated for free? Or just people like me, who don't need it? I have a $100 4-phone plan with T-Mobile which gives me unlimited stuff and what I "think" is free data, currently at 3.5 GB/month. I started, a few years ago with...
